Information about Domain Names
For a start the user inputs the URL. From this URL the browser finds the domain name and then searches using the defined (normally by the ISP) DNS server. This returns an IP address, which allows the browser to find where the website is hosted. The browser then contacts the website asking the web server (Apache, for example) exactly where the page is found. It then requests the webpage and, if accessible, displays it in the browser.
